Good practices of a resume audit

The resume audit process allows companies to know to what extent the employees who are going to be part of their staff are telling the truth in their resumes.
Making a resume is accessible to everyone, in fact almost certainly at some point in our lives we have to make at least one. 
We should not be surprised that resumes contain errors or that the information does not match reality. Moreover, we are used to the fact that companies do not check if the information contained in them is true, since it is true that it is not a practice that is often carried out, although it could be highly recommended. 


And... what happens when an auditor starts to work on it because a company commissions him/her to perform this task? 

From my experience, three things can happen: 

  • All the data may match perfectly. 
  • Small mismatches are detected that do not match reality. 
  • Serious mismatches may be found.


Checking the different aspects of a professional profile is not difficult, since if the corresponding empirical evidence is requested, half the work is done. It remains to analyze the information, make the appropriate checks and issue the final report.
Although it is true that not many cases that generate problems are discovered, sometimes they are. The most typical mismatches are, on the one hand, bringing forward the final year of university degrees after completing all the subjects, with the exception of the final project, and, on the other hand, rounding off the dates of professional experiences in such a way that they appear in a row without gaps between them, sometimes making it appear that the person has spent more time in the company than he/she really has. 

Of course, there are more serious errors than others, for example: if you have doubts whether what the professional referrer is telling you is true, or you claim to have a degree and it is really another, or you state that you were in a multinational company working for a certain period of time and it is really much less.

Stating things as they are is the best thing to do. In this way, all the data in the curriculum vitae will remain in order and there will be no incidents or mishaps for which you will have to give explanations. 
After analyzing the information by cross-checking the resume with empirical evidence, a final report is issued in which a record is made of the issues observed during the process, asking the candidate for clarification when necessary. This report is then delivered to the company that hires us so that they are free to decide whether to go ahead with the application in question.

Therefore, my advice when writing your resume is:

  • Be honest and transparent.
  • Rely on official documents to record names and dates.


Undoubtedly, this type of practice helps companies to know their employees better, and above all helps to make their selection processes fairer by meeting quality requirements.
